A Song for Our Heritage. A Voice for Our Empire. A Legacy for Generations.

As part of the maiden Oyo Empire Day Celebration, scheduled for 17–19 December 2026, the Oyo Empire Day Central Working Committee invites composers, musicians, choirs, cultural organisations and creative talents across Yorubaland and the Diaspora to participate in the creation of the official Oyo Empire Anthem.

This is an opportunity to create an enduring musical symbol that celebrates the rich history, royal heritage, cultural achievements and shared identity of the Oyo people.

The proposed anthem must be an entirely original composition, written in Yoruba, not exceeding two minutes in duration. It should reflect the historic greatness of the Oyo Empire, honour the institution of the Alaafin and inspire unity, cultural pride and hope for future generations.

Individuals and groups are welcome to participate. Each submission must include the complete Yoruba lyrics and an MP3 recording demonstrating the proposed melody.

Submission deadline

30 October 2026

The selected composition will have the opportunity to become a lasting musical symbol of Oyo heritage, with its creator receiving a generational award and recognition.
